Orlando-area residents concerned about a double chin can find a solution in KYBELLA injections at Primera Plastic Surgery, one of the first practices in central Florida to offer this "double chin shot." The area below the chin is a common trouble spot for both men and women, including younger adults whose double chins are often an inherited trait. KYBELLA injections are approved by the FDA specifically for reducing the stubborn fat that causes double chins, called submental fat.

Proven Techniques, Outstanding Results

Only providers who have undergone intensive training are certified to offer KYBELLA, which has been clinically shown to significantly reduce the neck fat that results in a double chin.1 Dr. Edward J. Gross or his certified physician assistant Eileen will customize treatments after assessing your skin's laxity and the amount of fat present, in addition to listening to your cosmetic goals.

KYBELLA Treatments With a Facial Aesthetic Specialist

Dr. Gross and Eileen have the expertise you should expect when undergoing aesthetic treatments. Although KYBELLA is a non-surgical procedure, it requires specific training in addition to knowledge of facial and neck anatomy. For example, KYBELLA may not be the appropriate approach for a patient with sagging skin because it isn't a skin tightening treatment.

We may recommend alternative treatments, such as neck liposuction, in certain cases. Or we may suggest Ultherapy®, a non-invasive skin tightening treatment.

Based on the treatment plan created for you, Dr. Gross or Eileen begins the KYBELLA procedure by marking a detailed grid showing specific locations for the injections. KYBELLA is made using a synthetic form of a chemical called deoxycholic acid, which is produced naturally by the body to break down and eliminate dietary fat. When injected just below the skin's surface in the neck, it gradually destroys fat cells. As the fat cells die, they are removed from the body through its normal metabolic process.

Each treatment session involves multiple injections. We can use a local anesthetic to enhance your comfort. Most patients begin seeing results after 2 treatments spaced about a month apart, although it may take 3 or 4 sessions to get optimal results. A treatment session takes about a half-hour.

How Much Does KYBELLA Cost?

Because KYBELLA treatments are customized to meet the needs of each patient, it isn't possible to quote a specific price for the treatment. At Primera Plastic Surgery near Orlando, the cost typically ranges from $1,200 to $1,500 per treatment, but varies depending on the number of injections needed during each treatment session and the number of treatments required. In general, the cost of KYBELLA is comparable to, or a little less than, neck liposuction.

What to Expect

KYBELLA is the first injectable treatment for fat reduction in the neck and, unlike neck liposuction, involves little to no downtime. The most common side effects following KYBELLA injections are swelling, bruising, discomfort, numbness, redness, and a hardness in the treatment area. These are temporary and typically resolve by themselves.

The swelling is most pronounced during the first 3 to 4 days after the procedure, and some patients choose to wear a scarf. After each treatment session, more fat fades away, typically leaving a refined neck contour and a sleeker look. Patients prefer to schedule on a Thursday or Friday to recover over the weekend and use ice compresses on the neck to reduce swelling.
