Proven Technique, Outstanding Results
Blood platelets are rich in a variety of growth factors that can regenerate skin tissue and collagen. PRP therapy is the process of isolating these platelet-rich cells from whole blood and injecting the enhanced cells and growth factors into areas of concern. Because the therapy uses your own natural platelets, there is no risk of allergic reaction.
PRP therapy can treat conditions including:
- Nasolabial folds and other facial creases
- Acne scars
- Dull, lackluster skin
- Wrinkles and fine lines
- Under-eye hollows and loss of volume in the cheeks
- Aging skin on areas such as the chest, neck, and hands
Dr. Gross also uses PRP therapy during surgery. When applied just under the surface of the skin at the end of a procedure, PRP reduces inflammation and promotes faster healing by stimulating collagen formation. PRP can also improve the appearance of the incision and smooth any scarring.
PRP Therapy with a Facial Aesthetic Specialist
Because PRP therapy stimulates collagen, improvement occurs gradually over time. During consultation, we will assess your skin and recommend a treatment plan that is individualized to your needs. PRP therapy can enhance the results of many other treatments, such as dermal fillers like JUVÉDERM®, laser skin resurfacing, and microneedling.
What to Expect
For being such an advanced concept, PRP therapy is surprisingly simple. We first draw a small amount of blood and process it in a centrifuge to isolate the platelets and growth factors. We also place a numbing gel over the treatment areas.
We then inject the PRP into the areas of concern. In the case of microneedling, we apply the PRP topically, and the microneedles drive the platelets and nutrients into your skin. At the end of the procedure, we apply a cool compress to the treatment areas.
Some patients experience mild to moderate pinkness, warmth, sensitivity, and a sensation of tightness immediately after the procedure. However, these effects typically fade within a few hours to a few days and can be easily covered with makeup.
There is minimal to no downtime associated with treatment, and patients can return to their normal daily activities after the appointment. Depending on which body areas you want to treat, we may recommend a series of PRP therapy sessions spaced several weeks apart to provide the best results.
Over the course of several weeks, your platelets go to work strengthening your skin. New collagen growth will add fullness to thinning areas, and wrinkles and scars will diminish. Depending on the treatment area, results last approximately 6 months to 1 year.
