Why Philanthropy Is a Cornerstone of My Practice

a diverse group of 4 military members and veterans
One of the most fulfilling aspects of my work as a facial plastic surgeon is using my Orlando-area practice to help military veterans and domestic violence victims. I’m honored to participate in both the Faces of Honor and FACE to FACE programs that offer reconstructive facial plastic surgery at no charge to these patients. Both programs are coordinated by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS), which serves as a resource to connect patients with face and head injuries with surgeons participating in the programs. The Faces of Honor program assists veterans deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan who suffered facial injuries. It’s a way to say “thank you” to the men and women who serve our country by restoring a sense of normalcy to their lives after injuries that can be quite traumatic.Through FACE to FACE, the AAFPRS puts victims of domestic violence in touch with local shelters, where counseling and support is provided. They are then given a referral to a plastic surgeon in the area who participates in the program.

As a specialist with more than 2 decades of facial reconstructive surgery experience, I see these programs as providing a unique opportunity to give back to our community. Healing the external reminders of violent injuries is a crucial part of the internal healing process that both veterans and domestic violence victims experience.

I also think my work in these programs benefits all of my patients at Primera Plastic Surgery. Reconstructive surgery is challenging and requires surgeons to stay current with the latest techniques, refining our skills. It also requires problem-solving skills, because no 2 cases are identical and devising a treatment plan often demands a creative approach.

Dr. Gross – Among Orlando’s Doctors of Distinction

Orlando magazine

Faces have always been the specialty of Dr. Edward J. Gross, M.D. And now a new comprehensive facility enables him to provide patients with a full scope of surgical and non-surgical treatments, all under one roof. Along with offering the many procedures for which Dr. Gross has become known as one of Central Florida’s top plastic surgeons, his Primera Surgery Center, Primera Day Spa and laser center now offer facials, massages, manicures, pedicures, personal training and more.

“We offer comprehensive treatment for each patient,” says Dr. Gross. “Our focus is on beautifying the face and achieving natural results.” For example, having a facial before plastic surgery means the patient starts with skin that is more toned and cleaner, with a reduced bacterial count. Post-op, the Spa offers skin care, ultrasonic treatment and massage therapy to facilitate healing.

For those patients who want to change their bodies along with their faces, Primera has added the expertise of body plastic surgeon Christopher Prevel, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr. Gross chose his specialty of caring for people and their faces while at the University of Miami School of Medicine. “It’s surgically challenging, anatomically complex and requires real passion for perfection,” he says.

Beyond the surgery, Dr. Gross enjoys counseling patients on their best individual choices, which, he points out, do not always include surgery. He uses Visia Facial Analysis and computer video imaging to educate patients and to show patients their best available results. Dr. Gross is one of only a few plastic surgeons that use this innovative, high-tech computer imaging system.

Dr. Gross graduated with honors from the University of Miami, where he also received his doctor of medicine degree in 1989, before continuing his surgical residency in Boston at Tufts University and Boston University.

He has been recognized by the Florida Medical Association as a “Distinguished Physician Who Cares,” is past president of the Seminole County Medical Society and is a physician mentor for Seminole County high school students.

He is a member of the Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery’s Face-to-Face program, an outreach to victims of domestic violence who have suffered facial scars and other injuries.
