From Dr. Gross
The Pulsed Dye Laser (from Candela™), or PDL, uses a concentrated beam of light that targets blood vessels in the skin. The light is converted into heat, destroying the blood vessel while leaving the surrounding skin undamaged. The laser uses yellow light, which is very safe and does not result in any long-term skin damage. Primera Plastic Surgery uses the Candela V-Beam, Candela is the number one choice for the Pulsed Dye Laser. This is the gold standard in treatment of facial veins on the nose, and cheeks. This laser works very well in the treatment of scars to help reduce the redness and thickness of the scar.
The Pulse Dye Laser can do it all: from rejuvenation by correcting red and brown skin discoloration, to eliminating virtually all vascular and pigmented lesions. The Pulse Dye Laser features advanced micro-pulse technology, multiple handpieces for treating various spot sizes, and a patented Dynamic Cooling Device™ cooling system, which reduce patient downtime by minimizing discomfort, purpura, or bruising.

Commonly Asked Questions
How many treatments are required?
Typically, a series of treatments (3-5) are required for best results. Larger areas or deeper discolorations may require more treatments. These are usually done 1 month apart and no anesthesia, injections or prep is required.
Does it hurt?
No
How long does the laser surgery take?
The procedure lasts 5 minutes and patients return to work the same day.
What are typical side effects?
Side effects are generally minimal. The most common side effect is bruising. With the V-Beam bruising can be minimized or even eliminated. If it should occur, bruising is most pronounced in the first few days and usually clears within 3-10 days. Less common side effects include temporary pigmentary changes usually lasting a few weeks. Sunblock for one month before treatment is recommended as tanned skin blocks the laser light and results in a higher chance of side effects. Scarring is extremely rare with this laser. Avoidance of sun for 2 weeks is recommended.
What do I do to take care of myself after?
Skin care after the procedure is straightforward. A moisturizer, such as Vaseline, applied 2-3 times per day will help protect the skin and speed healing. Sun protection will help minimize the chance of pigmentary changes. Makeup can be used starting on day two. If any crust forms, patients should not pick or try to remove it. Any bruising fades relatively quickly over a 3-10 day period.
What are the common applications?
Scars and Stretch Marks, Freckles, Sun and Age Spots, Rosacea, Port Wine Stains, Hemangiomas, Cherry Angiomas, Skin Rejuvenation, Cheek and Nose Redness, Facial Veins and broken blood vessels, Wrinkles, Warts, Acne, Poikiloderma (neck redness from chronic sun exposure).
Patient Testimonials
I just wanted to thank all of you, for your kindness during this time of my surgery. In all my years dealing with fine Doctors, I have never had a doctor call my home to check on my progress. It is nice to know there is still a sweet and compassionate doctor who really does care. I guess that's why you're voted the number one surgeon in Orlando Magazine.
Thanks Again For All Your Kindness,
Pat
You are a very special person to my family, and me I could not of gone through this without you. You are God's special angel.
Love,
Tiffany
